“Sarah, I’ve been waiting for you for hours.”
“You had a fight with Danny, so you didn’t go
home.”
“It’s cold. I knitted you a scarf.”
Before I could say anything, he had the scarf
around my pock
<
around my neck.
I tried to stop him.
The necklace was inside of the scarf.
Mark looked hopeful and gave me a hug.
“Jen, are you back? I miss you.”
I pushed him away and threw down the scarf.
“Mark, what’s wrong with you? It’s the
summer, and you’re trying to give me a
scarf!”
“If you miss Jen, go to the hospital and let me
be!”
I left Mark there.
I went to the security office and found the
cameras.
Because it didn’t work, Danny was angry.
“That’s what you said? Why are we failing?
My sister can’t take it anymore!”
Jen was going downhill.
This was their fault.
Mark was just as upset that the plan didn’t
work.
“It can’t be! The necklace should be doing its
job! I’ll find some other way.”
I laughed as Mark and Danny walked away.
I knew why it didn’t work.
I already knew that the necklace was no
good.
I paid someone to make me a copy, and
swapped them out.
Mark was going to use a necklace that didn’t
work.
I was so smart.
They will know what it’s like to be trapped.
Mark and Danny would be back, but I would
be ready.
That night, I was getting ready for bed when
a strange number called me
<
It was Danny.
“Sarah, did you switch the necklaces?
Where’s the real one?
“If you don’t want it, give it back. Don’t be
cruel!”
It was over.
He had finally figured it out.
I laughed.
“Who wants your necklace? I threw it away a
long time ago!”
Danny asked.
“Where did you throw it?”
I said:
“Outside of town, in the pig pen. It’s probably
around a pig’s neck!”
Danny hung up.
It was funny.
When Mark found me, Jen was already back.
She wasn’t with me, but with the pig.
How were they supposed to find Jen in a pig
pen?
They had a lot to do.
They would be too busy to annoy me.
I was wrong.
I was in the library when Danny came and
bothered me.
