Chapter 28
Kate had always believed it was her fault that her parents didn’t love her. But the truth was, they had never really kept her in their hearts. During that time, every day felt like it was filled only with pain, as if there was no other joy in her life.
Would they ever understand? There was no true empathy in this world, how could they understand?
At some point, as these thoughts crossed her mind, tears unexpectedly welled up in Kate’s eyes. She quickly wiped them away, trying to calm herself before replying, “I understand. Let me think about it.
David didn’t push her any further.
As Kate walked alone outside, Harry appeared beside her, quietly staying by her side. He understood her sensitivity, her fragility and her softness.
Kate stared at a spot, lost in thought.

“Harry, do you think I should go back?” she began to question her decision.
Her mother was still lying in the hospital bed and she felt like a spoiled child. She didn’t even know what to think of herself
anymore.
Harry took her hand, his tone gentle. “How could it be your fault? You’ve been the one hurt all these years. Follow your heart and I’ll always be here with you.”
Tears welled up in Kate’s eyes. She couldn’t help but feel moved whenever she heard. such words.
“I’m so conflicted. On one hand, I hate what they’ve done to me, but when I see her lying in the hospital bed, I want to forgive them.”
Harry gently placed her head on his chest. “That’s because you’re clear about your feelings, yet you’re kind-hearted.”
Some saw her flaws as strengths, while others insisted she could do no wrong. But

she chose to confront her heart honestly and now, she had found her answer.
“Don’t avoid it; the good and the bad have already happened. People should look
forward and she, more than anyone, should.”
No matter what, what had happened had already happened. The hatred or forgiveness would eventually heal her wounded heart.
When she saw her parents again, she had already formed her own thoughts.
It wasn’t long before Melanie woke up in the hospital and David called, asking her to
come.
She hurriedly gathered her things and prepared to leave.
The first thing Melanie said upon waking was asking about Kate.
“Where is Kate?”
David reassured her that Kate would be

David stood up and offered Kate the chair. “Sit down! Stay and talk with your mother for a while.”
Melanie struggled to sit up and said softly, “Kate, your father and I truly hope that you can come back and be with us again.

Kate lowered her head, not knowing what to say in front of her parents now.
She wasn’t sure when hope truly died. Maybe it was when she was five, or perhaps it was the day of her wedding, when Melanie gave her that necklace.
