Chapter 29
It seemed like none of it mattered
anymore.
Kate was silent for a long time before slowly speaking. “I’ve actually already forgiven you both…”

David and Melanie showed a long–lost smile. Kate could tell it was a smile from
teart.
“But I’m not planning to go back with you.”
The smile froze on Melanie’s face and she
looked a bit lost.
“Why? Are you still angry with us?”
Kate raised her gaze to look at them. “No, when I first saw you, I was indeed angry, but now I’m not anymore. It’s like after I left, I understood a lot of things. When I was younger, I could never understand why there was such a big difference between.

me and Leona, even though we were both daughters. At the age of five, I started learning to be obedient and understanding, trying to make you happy. But no one can forgive the child I used to be. I’ve forgiven you, but I can’t forgive the version of me who was too soft–hearted.”
Hearing these words, Melanie’s eyes started to redden.
She thought back to the past and realized that there wasn’t a single day she didn’t regret herself.
Kate said, “You don’t have to do this. I just hope you stay healthy and don’t worry about me anymore.”
Melanie nodded, holding back her tears. “We respect your choice. The Shawn Family will always be your home. If one day you want to come back, you can come back anytime, okay?”
Kate paused for a moment before responding, “Okay.”

As Kate left, Melanie could no longer hold back her tears. She buried her face in David’s chest, crying uncontrollably.
Kate’s heart felt like it was being torn apart. It was almost healed, but still not entirely.
It seemed as though she could never truly be close to them again.
After they left the hospital, she arranged for them to stay on a cruise ship, so she could feel at ease.
They would be leaving soon and she hoped that distance would bring some peace.
However, Dave wouldn’t leave. He even boarded the cruise ship with Melanie.
Despite all her unwillingness, Kate couldn’t bring herself to argue with him anymore. She was too tired to care about it.
In the evening, Kate accidentally encountered Dave sitting there drinking alone. She didn’t approach him and was
about to leave when Dave called out to her.

“Kate, I really love you. Won’t you give me another chance?”
Kate turned around and met his gaze.
His face was flushed. It seemed like he was about to collapse to the ground at any
moment.
Kate knew he had drunk too much, so she didn’t argue with him. “You’ve had too much to drink. Go back to your room.”
Just as she was about to leave, Dave suddenly lunged forward and grabbed her. “Kate, come back with me. Give me another chance!”
He hugged Kate tightly and buried his head in the crook of her neck.
Feeling the warmth of Dave’s breath, Kate felt a surge of fear. She immediately pushed him away, but no matter how hard she pushed, it didn’t work.
“Can you stop causing trouble! Let go! I’m not going back with you!”

In an instant, a large hand grabbed Dave from behind and forcefully shoved him away, showing no mercy.
“Are you out of your mind!”
Kate raised her eyes and met the gaze of Harry. She hid behind him, gripping his arm like a frightened rabbit.
On Harry’s face, there was no longer the usual gentleness. As he looked at Dave, his eyes hardened, carrying a trace of coldness. “If you keep acting like this, get off the ship!”
Dave sneered, staring at Kate, his smile vague and unclear, as if it were neither a laugh nor a grimace.
