Chapter 7
Pearl was stunned.
Just then, a group of reporters rushed in.
They aimed their cameras at Antonio and questioned him, “Mr. Kaufman, you’re holding a wedding though you’re already a married man. Does your current wife know about this?”
Antonio’s face turned pale. He thought of something and rushed out, leaving Pearl and the guests behind.
Pearl’s parents looked like honest people.
Hearing the reports‘ words, they looked worried and anxious.
They asked Pearl, “What’s going on? They made a mistake, right?”
Looking embarrassed, Pearl murmured, not giving a direct
answer.
One of the reporters sneered, “You know Mr. Kaufman is married, but you insist on being the homewrecker. How shameless. And you’re too ashamed to admit it?”
Her relatives looked at her with disdain.
“Pearl always looks so cocky. I thought she had becom higher–up in the company. Who knows? She’s actually sleeping with the higher–up.”

“Her parents totally wasted their money paying for her tuition. What a disgrace to our entire family. If I hadn’t known, I wouldn’t have come here today.”
“You got to show her some understanding. Selling her body out in exchange for money is so much easier than being an ordinary worker, right?”
The Kaufman family was too embarrassed to stay here and left.
Meanwhile, their whispers reached Pearl’s ears, and she was flustered. As she was about to say something, her dad slapped her hard, and she fell to the ground.
“You’re such a disgrace. From now on, you’re no longer our daughter. Are you this horny? Do you have to be a
homewrecker? Your mom and I will be a laughingstock in the village forever!”
With that, he left with Pearl’s mom without looking back.
I looked away, started the car, and left as well.
I used to love Antonio so much, so I put up with everything. But my love for him meant nothing to him, and he trampled on it at all.
I became a cripple after saving him, yet he was embarrassed by my disability.
After three years of marriage, I ended up with nothing but a pair of disabled legs and a broken heart.
My phone on the passenger seat buzzed; I knew right away it was Antonio.

I rejected the call, but he called me again right away.
As soon as I picked up, his panicked voice rang out.

“Grace, where are you? What happened to the baby? You knew, didn’t you? I can explain. Pearl’s parents pushed me so hard, so I reluctantly agreed to play along with her. It was just a show.
“Where are you? Tell me. I’ll go and pick you up. Let’s talk in person, OK?”
I said calmly, “Other than divorce, we have nothing to talk about.”
At some point, Antonio had become a person full of lies.
I started to doubt my judgment; but, come to think of it, when we were going out, he was so perfect, and I felt I was so lucky to be his wife.
Then I realized it was because he was so good at hiding his true colors. It was time that finally expose him.
Antonio wanted to say something, but I had already hung up.
I arrived at the café as scheduled and was slightly stunned when I saw the man sitting next to the window.
It was Leroy Maxwell, in casual clothes. His youthful immaturity had faded with time, replaced by steadiness.
It had been about five years since I last saw him.
Thanks to one of our mutual friends, we reconnected.
wasn’t surprised when I know Leroy had become a legend in

After all, he stood out enough already when we were in high
school.
I sat down across from him.
As I pondered how to begin, he said, “I’ve got a gist about your situation. Your husband may be prosecuted on suspicion of bigamy and fraud.
“Even if he refuses a divorce, your marriage will likely come to an end. As for asset division–the court’s judgment will surely be in your favor.”
Hearing this, I looked up, only to meet his obscure gaze.
