No one saw it coming. Sienna lunged with shocking speed, her intent unmistakable–she was trying to push me off the roof.
She was strong, her movements wild and unpredictable. Mrs. Prescott screamed, but no one could stop her in time.
Caught off guard, I instinctively grabbed onto a nearby column. It helped slow my fall but didn’t stop me from hitting the ground hard.
The firefighter who had restrained Sienna earlier acted fast at the critical moment. He pulled off his helmet and hurled it at her leg with pinpoint accuracy.
The impact made her stumble, dragging me down with her. We both landed near the edge–so close that I could see the street below.
My back slammed against the rooftop with a painful thud, knocking the wind out of me.
Sienna, however, landed on top of me, mostly unscathed. She struggled to free herself, her rage undiminished, still trying to reach for me.
The firefighter tackled her again, pinning her down.
“Let me go! I’ll kill her!” Sienna screamed, thrashing violently as the firefighter restrained her.
It took a while for me to catch my breath. My fingers throbbed where they’d scraped against the column, but the pain didn’t matter–I was alive.

Liam, now a little more lucid, watched Sienna being dragged away. He turned to me, his voice subdued.
“Delilah, I’m so sorry.”
I stared at him for a long moment before replying,
“I’ll make sure Sienna pays for leaking the company’s secrets.”
I didn’t yell. I didn’t curse. I just gave him one last look before walking away.
That was the last time I saw Liam Prescott.
I later heard from mutual acquaintances that Liam had been under the influence of psychiatric medication when he climbed the roof. His mind wasn’t clear, and his actions were erratic.
As for Sienna, her plan to use Liam as a stepping stone backfired spectacularly. She’d leaked company secrets to competitors, hoping to climb the ladder, but she hadn’t realized Liam was a “false phoenix“-all flash, no substance.
When Liam fired her, she snapped, drugging his water in a desperate bid to take him down with her. She confessed everything later, claiming she’d wanted to “die together,” seeing it as her twisted version of love.
In the end, Sienna faced charges for both intentional harm and corporate espionage. Justice was served.
I didn’t sustain any significant injuries and was discharged from the hospital the same day.
Soon after, the headhunter I’d hired found a competent and ethical general manager to take over my responsibilities at Reese Enterprises. I finally handed over the reins and booked a flight to Hawaii.
The ocean was breathtaking. The sunlit beaches, the calming waves–I finally had a chance to enjoy life without thinking about work or
heartbreak.
And as it turned out, Hawaii had no shortage of handsome, fit men with sun–kissed smiles.
One of them caught my eye–a charming man whose laughter was as warm as the tropical sun. For the first time in a long while, I smiled back.
