“And you believe that? As long as you’re alive, she’ll never forgive you. You’ve lost everything–your career is gone; she doesn’t want you anymore. What’s the point of living?”
Wow. This woman honestly had no limits. She wasn’t just cruel–she wanted Liam Prescott dead.
Her face twisted with malice as the words left her mouth. The move was so sudden that no one had time to react. The firefighter closest to her quickly clamped a hand over her mouth.
Liam’s eyes were bloodshot, and the moment he heard her, he edged closer to the rooftop’s edge.
I shouted quickly, “Liam Prescott, do you know why I cut your company off?”
Confusion clouded his face; he paused, finally turning toward me.
“Because I cheated on you with Sienna. That’s why. It’s my fault,” he muttered.
I gave the firefighter a subtle nod to act, then shook my head at Liam.
“No, Liam. I’d have ended things with you and moved on if it were just about that. I wouldn’t have cut off your funding. You have potential. If you focused, your company could still thrive.”
“The real reason?” I continued. “It’s Sienna. She leaked confidential company information. If the project continued, we both could’ve been implicated.”
Liam froze, processing my words, before spinning toward Sienna, his face twisted in anger.
“Sienna Vaughn? Did you get close to me just to ruin me?” he bellowed.
Sienna shook her head frantically, trying to deny it, but the firefighter kept her firmly restrained.
Seizing the moment, the firefighters made their move. Distracted by the revelation, Liam was quickly pulled back to safety.
Mrs. Prescott collapsed to the ground, her legs giving out beneath her. Mr. Prescott hurried to help her up.
Liam, now subdued and disoriented, was escorted downstairs to be taken to the hospital. I followed quietly, staying just behind the group.
Once the immediate crisis was over, the firefighters released Sienna. She immediately turned to me, her eyes filled with hatred.
