The poor student I sponsored got
rich and immediately kicked me out
Chapter 1
I bankrolled Jake for five freaking years.
Five years!
And as soon as he hit the big time, the first
thing he did was dump my ass.
“You’re just some charity case, Chloe. So
what if you paid for a few semesters? That
doesn’t give you the right to make demands.”
“You want me to marry you? Fine. I’m getting
married in a month. If you dare try to crash
the wedding, then maybe I’ll consider it.”
く
My heart just sank.
I walked away, deciding to go through with
the arranged marriage my family set up.
The wedding date?
The same freaking day as Jake’s.
I barely got to the hotel in my limo before
Jake and his frat–boy buddies started
laughing at me.
“Seriously? You actually came? I was just
messing with you! You really want to marry
me that bad?”
He even went live on Instagram, calling me a
homewrecker.
L
And then, he accused me of stealing some
heirloom ring from the freaking Kennedy heir.
But the second I walked down the aisle on the
arm of said Kennedy heir, Jake’s smug grin
just vanished.
Jake freaking yanked me out of the limo.
My veil went flying, and my ankle twisted.
He just stood there, smirking.
“Chloe, I was just kidding! You actually came
to crash the wedding?”
“Are you that desperate? Can’t live without a
L
His rich kid huddies piled on, laughing like
hyenas.
“A foster kid like you thinking she could marry
into the Kennedy family? Get real!”
“She’s kinda hot, though. Since she’s not
getting into that Kennedy bed, why not come
hang out with us? We’ll take good care of
you.”
They were howling with laughter, their eyes
practically undressing me.
I was mortified.
I looked straight at Jake, cold as ice.
“What the hell is wrong with you, Jake?”
L
“Playing dumb now?”
He scoffed, looking down his nose at me.
“I was just yanking your chain. Still haven’t
figured that out? Who goes back to an ex
after they get dumped? I didn’t know you
were so thick–skinned.”
“A few semesters‘ worth of tuition, and you
think that buys me? I’ll double what you
wasted, just leave me alone. You’re not good
enough for me.”
Jake pulled out a wad of hundred–dollar bills
and threw them in my face.
The paper cut my cheek, drawing blood.
Г
I winced, tears welling up.
I stared at Jake.
