When my former mother–in–law woke up, she was in our basement.
This was the second time in many years that I had stepped into this basement.
There was a special smell here. I knew it was because the original blood smell was too strong, and my parents had tried to cover it up, resulting in this odor.
As soon as she woke up and saw me, she started cursing at me:
“You shameless vixen, you dirty whore, let me go right now! Otherwise, I won’t let you off even if I die!”
I felt somewhat numb. My parents had heard such words countless times, and they were still living well, so these words had no substantial impact.
I understood why Lucas didn’t like me – it was because he already had someone else in his heart. But I didn’t understand why Mrs. Sterling had such great animosity towards me. Hadn’t I been good to her? After I got together with Lucas, I tried my best to please her, buying her clothes and jewelry, never missing holiday gifts.
I asked her, “Why don’t you like me? You’ve been rejecting me since the first time we met. What did I do wrong?”
Mrs. Sterling sneered, “You? You reek of poverty from head to toe, and you want to marry our Lucas? It’s like a toad wanting to eat swan meat. I just look down on you, understand? Only a noble and elegant woman like Sophia is worthy of my Lucas!”
“If that’s the case, then killing you isn’t unjustified,” my brother said as he walked out from the corner of the basement, looking at Mrs. Sterling with a cold expression.
My brother had always known best how to torture people. He injected Mrs. Sterling with a special drug that kept her conscious through the pain, then stabbed her again and again. Mrs. Sterling’s screams were continuous, and her gaze towards me changed from initial anger to pleading in the end.
Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth, her gaze already numb, but she still stared at me, begging.
“Please spare me, Aria. I know I was wrong. I can give you anything you want…”
My brother, who had been about to continue, suddenly stopped when he heard these words.
He checked all of Mrs. Sterling’s shares and assets under the Sterling family’s businesses and drafted a property transfer agreement with me as the beneficiary.
“Sign it,” he said, pushing the agreement in front of Mrs. Sterling.
Mrs. Sterling knew she had no way out. Perhaps even if she did this, she wouldn’t be able to survive, but at least it would make her passing less painful.
So she signed with a trembling hand. Afterward, my brother cut her hand tendons and then handed the knife to me.
“Aria, she looks like she’s in a lot of pain,” my brother said, looking at me gently. “Why don’t you end her life for her?”
I took the knife, my hands shaking slightly. The handle still retained my brother’s body heat.
I hated the Sterling family very much, but to personally end Mrs. Sterling’s life, I still hesitated, especially now that she had become this pitiful
state.
Mrs. Sterling looked at me, her gaze full of something I couldn’t understand.
“Please… kill me, Aria,” she said, her lips moving slightly, struggling to utter hoarse words.
“I’ll be grateful to you for the rest of my life.”
It felt as if a heavy stone in my heart had suddenly been lifted. I raised the knife and plunged the tip into Mrs. Sterling’s chest.
The light gradually faded from her eyes.
My parents disguised it as a suicide, leaving behind a suicide note and the property agreement at the scene. In the suicide note, she also took responsibility for killing Lucas and Sophia, so the police let me off.
A few days later, our whole family moved to another city, and I returned to the company under the Sterling name.
After half a month, I didn’t return as an employee, but as the chairperson.
I fired the team leader who used to harass me and pile work on me. The colleagues who used to look down on me now had to bow their heads
to me.
I have to say, this feeling is just…
Awesome!
