Actually, Tiffany did come back once. She
was drunk and called for me to pick her up. I
found her in a VIP booth at a club, video
calling Chad. She waved me over, “Tao, come
here.” She told Chad, “Let me introduce you,
this is Tao, my boyfriend for six years.”
Chad still looked bored. He gave me a once
over, a few seconds.

Then, he smirked, “Tiffany, did you finally
move on?”
Tiffany chuckled, “Yep. Why chase after you
when I can have a loving and caring
husband?”
Chad looked at Tiffany holding onto me and
asked how long we’d been dating. I answered
honestly, six years. Chad ended the video call,
<
not even saying goodbye. Chad, the ever–so-
proud Chad, had lost it. Tiffany’s grip around
my arm faltered slightly.
That night, Tiffany was cuddling next to me,
but then she took a phone call. She came
back, wrapped me in her arms and kissed me
over and over. She was up all night, just
staring at me. In the morning, her voice
hoarse, she said, “Tao, this is the end for us.‘
I had been up all night, too. I’d heard her call.
Chad had told her, without batting an eye,
that he would be with her immediately, if she
broke things off. I knew I wasn’t as important
to her as Chad. I just nodded, not wanting a
big scene, and turned my back to her,
sighing.
Tiffany wrapped her arms around me from
く
behind. I could barely breathe, she held me so
tight. She whispered in my ear, “Your cousin,
Sarah Lu, there’s news. She’s not dead, she’s
got amnesia, overseas.”
My whole body froze. I turned around, “Can
you bring her back?”
Tiffany kissed me goodbye one last time. “I
will. I owe you that much.” The same day, she
flew off to be with Chad. A few days later, I
was reunited with Sarah. In the best hospital
in the country, treated by the best specialists.
She quickly recovered her memory, and
remembered me. Sarah had been injured
during a bombing while saving a child in a
war zone. She hugged me the second she
woke up, her soft voice in my ears, “These
last ten years, you’ve suffered because I
wasn’t there.”

My tears came instantly. The emptiness in my
chest was filled.
