That night, Ryan stayed in my guest room. He even skipped work, worried something might happen to me.
When my mom heard about the situation, she told me to move out immediately. These days, losing money was nothing compared to encountering someone truly dangerous.
What rotten luck – I was the landlord being forced out by a tenant.
As I was packing my things, Ryan called out from the window,
“Our CEO’s son just showed up with five huge guys and a baseball bat! His face looks a bit swollen – the CEO probably smacked him around. Looks like he’s here for revenge on Lucas,
From the stairwell, we watched the young man kick down Lucas’s door.
“Open up!” he shouted.
When Lucas didn’t answer, the young man ordered his crew to pick the lock.
“So you’re the ugly loser pretending to be me online and ruining my reputation?”

The young man and his gang barged into Lucas’s apartment, completely ignoring Lucas’s threats about trespassing being illegal.
At least he knew something about the law.
Looking at his online posts, I had thought he was completely clueless about legal matters.
I was about to go listen in, but Ryan pulled me back.
“Let it go. We might end up getting beaten too if we get involved.”
“Are they really that violent?” I asked.
“You have no idea how arrogant that guy is. When he causes trouble, his family just cleans it up for him. Lucas is in for it now, but he deserves
- it.
Ryan hummed a little tune as he went back to his room.
An hour later, Lucas’s account posted an update. He admitted to stealing the photos and making up the whole story for attention.
This post didn’t get nearly as much engagement as his previous ones.
“So you stole someone’s photos and lied about the landlord being your tenant? I bet that stuff about her flirting was all in your head too. What
a loser.
“He must have been caught by the girl and forced to post this apology. How ugly must you be to steal photos like that?”
“So who’s the real hottie in the pictures anyway? He’s totally my type.”
Someone in the comments found the CEO’s son’s real account, which had some group photos. Lucas had cropped him out of those for his fake
profile.
He probably thought no one would find out, or at worst they’d just delete the photos.
But he picked the wrong person to mess with. The guy showed up at his door and forced him to take everything down.
Serves him right!
I watched the young man and his five bodyguards leave the complex.
Lucas messaged me saying he wanted to terminate the lease.
He was probably afraid the CEO’s son would come back.
“I’m sorry, but there’s been a change in my work situation, so I have to break the lease,”
Seeing his request to move out, I felt a huge weight lift off my shoulders.
I quickly agreed to his request. Before he left, he asked if I could refund his security deposit, saying he was really short on cash.
1 pretended to hesitate but agreed, not wanting him to keep bothering me.
When he left, he was using a crutch and had his head wrapped in bandages. He tried to give me a big bag of oranges.
I refused, but he shoved his hand through the door crack and tossed them in the entryway.
“Thank you so much. I accidentally fell out of bed recently and broke my leg. I don’t have much money, so I really appreciate you returning the deposit.”

But I didn’t question him further, just vaguely agreed and urged him to leave.
He seemed oblivious to my tone and kept talking. “Thanks for taking care of me all this time. It’s been a while since I met such a nice girl. If only you were my girlfriend.”
When I heard those words, my internal alarm started blaring again.
I couldn’t help but think of how he tried to force his way into my apartment that day.
Ryan yanked open the door and glared at Lucas. “Get lost already! You’re trying to steal my girlfriend? Who do you think you are?”
He made like he was going to hit Lucas, who stumbled backwards on his crutch.
“I didn’t mean anything by it! I was just joking around. I hope you two stay together forever and have lots of kids. My ride’s here, so I’ll be going
now.”
Just when I thought everything was finally over, Lucas made another post:
“She definitely likes me. Even though I broke the lease, when I said I was broke, she returned my security deposit without hesitation. She really cares about me. I saw tears in her eyes when I left – she must not want me to go. But she’s shy and can’t admit her feelings for me out loud.”
What a shameless jerk!
Most people in the comments were shocked by his post:
“I’m a landlord too. If a tenant breaks their lease and you return the deposit quickly, it just means they want you gone ASAP.”
“Are you sure those tears weren’t because she was scared of you?”
“You catfish. You won’t even use your own photos – I can only imagine how ugly you must be in real life.”
“Get lost! It’s bad luck to even see your posts!”
Lucas replied to the last comment:
“You just don’t understand. She loves me. I’ll take care of her for the rest of our lives. We’ll have lots of kids. I’ll have my mom propose to her family, and then I’ll come back here to rub it in all your faces.”
