The tragedy of love
Chapter One
My husband’s twin brother died, and his
unstable widow, bless her heart, started
mistaking my husband for him.
The minute I got close to Mark, she’d spread
rumors all over town that I was a home-
wrecking floozy trying to steal her man.
I was furious and threw a fit, demanding Mark
send her away.
But he just held me close and soothed me.
“Honey, Amy doesn’t mean anything by it. She
just loved Jake so much, she can’t accept
that he’s gone. That’s why she’s confusing me
for him, why do you have to be so hard on
く
“She’s sick, can’t you cut her some slack?”
From then on, to avoid upsetting this “sick”
woman, I had to give her everything she
wanted.
Even if she got all cozy with my husband right
in front of me, I had to grit my teeth and bear
- it.
Then came the day Mark rescued Amy from
kidnappers, without a second thought he
pushed me forward as a hostage.
“She’s carrying the only grandchild of Jake! I
can’t let anything happen to her!”
I completely broke down, my heart turning to
ash.
<
He didn’t know, I was carrying his only
grandchild too.
1
“Isn’t this broad supposed to be Mark’s wife?
It’s been ten hours, how come he hasn’t come
back to rescue her yet!”
This was the tenth hour of my torment at the
hands of these thugs, and Mark’s phone was
still unreachable.
My senses were fading, my mind replaying
the image of Mark carefully shielding Amy as
they left.
Today was my wedding anniversary, and after
begging him forever, I finally got Mark to take
me on a vacation.
く
Without so much as a word, Mark dragged
Amy along.
When I dared to question it, Mark snapped at
me impatiently.
“Amy’s not doing too well, I couldn’t leave her
at home alone. This trip is the perfect
opportunity for her to take a breather, okay?
Don’t be selfish!”
I was so mad I almost forgot about the
vacation. As I turned to go back to the car,
we ran into the kidnappers.
Seeing that the kidnappers were about to
grab Amy, Mark shoved me forward without
hesitation.
He said:
く
“Amy’s carrying Jake’s child, it’s the only
grandchild of Jake! Jake died because of me,
I can’t let his wife and child down!”
“I’ve already called the cops, they wouldn’t
dare kill anyone, hold on and I’ll be back to
save you soon.”
I didn’t even have time to react. I was dumped
right into the hands of the thugs, forced to
watch as my husband left with Amy.
Because Mark didn’t come back, the
kidnappers took their anger out on me.
They cut off my pinky and beat me black and
blue.
I struggled to protect my lower abdomen, but
<
the thugs saw through the action and was
overjoyed that they had found what they were
looking for. I could only hear the excited
voices of the kidnappers.
“So, she’s got Mark’s little bastard in there,
huh!”
“Mark didn’t think about his wife and kid
when he stole our boss’s contract! You’ve
messed with the wrong people.”
One of the kidnappers yanked my hair so
hard I thought my scalp would come off:
“Bitch! You can blame your husband for
stealing what’s ours! You messed with the
wrong people.”
He viciously kicked me in the stomach.
く
The pain was so intense, I couldn’t even
scream, I could only feel something flowing
out of me.
I knew, with all the despair in the world, that
my baby wasn’t going to make it.
Mark, you said the child in Amy’s belly was
Jake’s only grandchild.
But the child in my belly was your only
grandchild.
If you knew this baby died because you saved
Amy, would you regret it?
“Mark hasn’t made a move in so long, I don’t
think this woman is of any use, let’s just kill
her.”
<
They drew their knives and came at me, and
the fear and shadow of death loomed over
- me.
I realized, if things continued this way, I would
really die!
Chapter Two
I don’t know where I got the strength, but I
propped myself up and slammed into one of
the thugs coming toward me, plunging
headfirst into the river.
The icy water choked my nostrils, and I flailed
with my freezing limbs.
I swam with all my might, swam for my life.
I don’t know how long it took, but I finally saw
the opposite bank.
く
When I finally crawled ashore, all my strength
was completely gone.
I lay sprawled on the bank like a dead fish,
too weak to even twitch.
Just when I thought I was going to die there, I
heard a commotion of voices calling for help:
“Someone’s drowning! Help!”
The next thing I knew, my finger had been
bandaged, and all the blood had been cleaned
- up.
I hadn’t even recovered from the relief of
escaping death.
When I heard the doctor sigh:
<
“Due to the severe blow to the abdomen and
the long time in the water, it may be difficult
to conceive in the future.”
My heart felt like it had been hit with a
hammer, and it hurt so badly I almost
suffocated.
I vaguely accepted the medical bill the doctor
handed me, only to realize that my phone was
long gone.
I borrowed the doctor’s phone but didn’t know
who to call.
