- 17.
My family had no money for Dad’s funeral. He
was cremated and his ashes were scattered
into the ocean.
That day, I heard Mom quietly say.
“Jenny, I will be there with you soon.”
I felt an ominous feeling.
And just like that, the next day she made
plans to see Polly.
Polly’s life had not been great either. Tom
had an affair and dumped her, spending all of
her money.
After the divorce, she didn’t even have a
place to live.
Mom said she wanted to start over and asked
her to move back in.
Polly gladly accepted, and was overjoyed to
see mom had prepared a huge dinner.
く
She called out to her mom, with a huge smile,
pretending like the fight had never happened.
Mom was smiling and putting food on her
plate, listening to her complaints and
comforting her.
But the food was laced with a lethal dose of
pesticide.
I watched Mom put it into the food with my
own eyes.
Polly was still eating, with her mouth full.
Until she started feeling a horrible pain.
She screamed and fell off her chair, her body
contorting like a worm, desperately reaching
out to Mom.
L
“I’m sorry, Mom, I’m sorry…
وو
“I’m sorry to Jenny. I shouldn’t have hurt her,
I’m so sorry.”
“”
“Help me! Please help me!”
But Mom only watched her, coldly, like she
was nothing but an object.
Only at this moment did Polly finally realize
that her Mom did not love her anymore.
She could not take it, in agony and despair.
“Mom, you can’t do this to me.”
“You can’t!”
She broke down crying, begging and
groveling, her hair disheveled, looking like a
ghost.
This little sister, who had always been
pampered, was finally experiencing what it
was like to not be loved.
A gush of black blood spilled out of her
mouth, staining the wooden floor.
Her lips and nails were already turning purple,
her body bent into an impossible angle
because of the pain.
Finally, she died in that horrible position.
Mom was also dying from the poison. She
was clutching her stomach, shaking, and
picking up my photo.
Her eyes were so gentle.
Jenny, Mom avenged you. Will you forgive
me when I see you?”
I shook my head, no longer holding back my
tears.
Mom, please don’t.
Please.
Go to the hospital, you can still live for a long
time.
Mom, don’t die, okay?
If you die, I am never going to forgive you!
I was crying and begging, but I could only
L
watch as she got weaker.
And my soul became lighter and lighter.
I could finally move on.
