“Yes… what do you mean? Are you doubting my ability?” Nick asked.
“Is there a chance they were swapped?”
“Of course not… Well, it’s not impossible,” Nick admitted. “I didn’t watch her get her blood drawn. If she switched the sample, the test wouldn’t catch it. But that’s really hard to do. Most people couldn’t pull it off. Don’t worry.”
Elijah listened in silence, a strange thought surfacing. He almost wished Eleanor did have such abilities.
If they had children, they would probably be as beautiful as her.
Nick interrupted, “Why are you asking this?”
Elijah couldn’t be bothered to explain. Clearing his throat, he asked instead, “How do you treat a threatened miscarriage?”
Nick paused, then cautiously asked, “Zoey?”
Elijah cleared his throat and replied flatly. “No.”
