Elijah’s voice was soft, so soft that it almost felt like the man in front of Eleanor was someone she had conjured up, because he never spoke to her like that.
But what did it matter? His child was in Zoey’s belly now, and everything here was just an illusion.
Once he learned that Zoey was pregnant, he would regret everything he’d said to her, he would despise everything he’d done…
Eleanor couldn’t bring herself to think any further. She opened the door and left without looking back.
Elijah straightened his wrinkled shirt and pulled out a lighter, lighting a cigarette in the bathroom to mask the smell of Eleanor’s vomit.
But once Elijah left, a trembling figure clung to the wall, gasping for breath.
It was Zoey.
Her eyes were wide with disbelief, her mind racing, Eleanor is pregnant? How could Elijah let her get pregnant? Why?
Zoey knew better than anyone that if Eleanor was pregnant, Elijah would marry her.
The way Elijah had looked at Eleanor just now was undeniable.
And when that happened, Zoey, the wife, would become the joke of the whole town.
But that wasn’t all…
Zoey gritted her teeth, her hand clutching her belly, her face twisted with rage.
Her baby wasn’t even fully formed yet, but there was this strange, inexplicable feeling of reluctance.
The doctor had told her to take the medicine as soon as possible, to minimize the physical damage.
She had the pills ready when she got home, but when the time came, she couldn’t bring herself to swallow them.
She had this feeling, this strange sensation that this child was meant to be her lucky charm–the one thing that could give her everything she wanted.
But now, for some reason, it felt like everything she had hoped for was slipping away from her grasp.
Determined, she had dressed carefully to go to the Davis family’s house. She was going to make one last effort. If she could win Elijah today, it wouldn’t matter if the baby was premature–being born a month early was no big deal.
But she never expected to hear such a shocking piece of news.
Zoey’s hand slowly slid away from her stomach, and the pain began to radiate through her body.
It seemed the child wasn’t going to stay. Elijah would never touch her today.
So… Eleanor’s baby would be the one to take her place.

Chapter 162 Zoey’s Jealousy
There was no way Elijah would defy Jayden’s wishes to marry Eleanor.
Zoey set her hand down and quickly touched up her makeup.

She took her earrings off and carefully placed them in a small jewelry box she always carried with her.
Before Elijah returned to the living room, she went in to greet the others.
“Jayden, Monica, Lily.”
Jayden was displeased with Zoey’s recent behavior, but he gave a half–hearted grunt in acknowledgment.
Monica, ever kind, smiled and nodded, “Zoey, you’re here. Are you looking for Elijah? The servants spilled some soup on his clothes earlier, so he went to change. Please have a seat while you wait.”
Zoey didn’t sit. Instead, she opened the jewelry box in front of Lily, deliberately pausing a few seconds longer in front of her.
“Actually, I came to see Eleanor. She was upset at my birthday party, and I didn’t get a chance to check on her with everything going on. These are some new earrings I bought–wanted to give them to her to make up for that.”
Lily recognized the earrings immediately. They were worth at least 100,000 dollars.
She couldn’t hide her excitement, pointing toward the back yard.
“Eleanor went out to pack some things. You can catch her out there.”
“Well, I’ll go ahead.”
Zoey nodded and left.
Jayden didn’t care about these trivial matters, so he let Zoey go without a word.
Lily, on the other hand, was grinning to herself, thinking the earrings would look perfect on her daughter.
Only Monica, sipping her coffee, continued to watch Zoey’s retreating figure with a thoughtful look.
Eleanor was in no mood to linger at the Davis family house. She packed her things into her suitcase, ready to leave.
But just as she was about to walk out, she came face to face with Zoey.
“Eleanor, let’s talk somewhere,” Zoey said with a smile.
“We’re not that close. There’s really nothing to talk about,” Eleanor replied, pulling her suitcase behind her.
Zoey’s voice turned cold as she threatened, “If I shout here, do you think Jayden will believe you or me?”
Though Jayden hadn’t been overly fond of Zoey–especially after their last dinner together, when his opinion of the Taylor family had soured–he would still trust Zoey over Eleanor.
Eleanor didn’t want to cause any more trouble on her last day, so she reluctantly agreed to Zoey’s request.

She smiled as she pulled out the earrings and said, “These are for you. I’m sorry about what happened at my birthday party.”
Eleanor glanced at the earrings and already knew their price. She shook her head, rejecting them. “I don’t need them.”
As she spoke, she took a deliberate step back.
Zoey, pregnant and having taken the abortion pills with reluctance, noticed the pristine, untouched appearance of Eleanor’s face. She didn’t look like someone who had been through such an ordeal.
