Elijah held her body in a vice–like grip, his voice low and steady. “No. There is no such thing as regret with me.”
Eleanor looked up, her eyes meeting his. For a moment, the air felt thick, as if time itself had stopped. His gaze was so dark, his face unnervingly pale.
She opened her mouth, about to ask something, but before she could speak, her phone rang.
It was her ride.
She glanced at the screen, but Elijah didn’t stop her.
“Miss, I’m here. Where are you?”
“I’m coming.”
Eleanor stepped back two paces, forcing herself to look away as she prepared to leave. Her shoulders sank under the weight of an unfamiliar coat.
When she turned around, Elijah had already walked back to his car.
The driver’s voice came through the phone. “Miss, I can’t park here too long.”
“I’m coming,” she replied, tugging the coat tighter around her and hurrying toward the car.
After Elijah got into his car, Avery, holding a bag of medicine, climbed in beside him.
He closed his eyes, his tone distant. “No one saw, right?”
Avery nodded. “No one.”
Elijah pressed his fingers to his forehead, his eyelids half–closed. “Follow her.”
Elijah frowned, massaging his temples.
Avery blinked. “Elijah, you’re still following her? Do you want me to stop the car and have Miss Brown come out?”
“If you don’t want to be driven crazy by her mouth, just follow,”
Avery stifled a laugh, but wisely held it back.
Back at her apartment, Eleanor hung Elijah’s coat on a hook.
She sat on the couch, lost in thought, her emotions complicated. Slowly, a plan began to form in her mind. The next day, when she entered the office, she overheard her colleagues talking. Zoey had taken a sick day. It seemed she was hiding away after her miscarriage.

Chapter 169 There’s No Regret
Last night, Zoey had specifically looked up the symptoms of a medical abortion online.
Apparently, it was very painful, with many women writhing in agony in bed. There was also the risk of an incomplete miscarriage, which would require a D&C. The only benefit was that it could be done quietly at home, without anyone knowing.
Eleanor had considered exposing the situation to the paparazzi, but she didn’t have concrete evidence.
She had overheard Zoey’s conversation with the doctor through the door. Even if she recorded it on her phone, Zoey’s voice would be altered. If Zoey denied it, there was nothing Eleanor could do.
And the doctor had even altered Zoey’s medical records.
She certainly couldn’t drag Zoey to the hospital for a public examination.
Since Zoey was hiding at home, Eleanor co0
proceed with her other plans.
Eleanor messaged Logan, asking if he’d like to have lunch together.
She glanced down at the bag at her feet, the one containing Elijah’s coat.
She was hesitant to go to Elijah directly–he would probably notice something was off.
But if she went with Logan, she could use the excuse of returning Elijah’s coat. It would be more natural.
Logan responded quickly. [Eleanor, I’m afraid today won’t work. Elijah’s sick.]
Eleanor’s heart skipped a beat. She couldn’t help but think of the unusually high temperature of Elijah’s body last night. She’d thought all men were just naturally warm.
Logan: [He had a fever when he rescued you from the lake, and after Jaxen’s accident last night, he worked through the night to finish the remaining tasks. His condition worsened.]
Eleanor: [I see.]
She set her phone down, her emotions mixed.
At that moment, a few colleagues were gossiping nearby.
“Did you see?”
“Yeah, Miss Taylor’s so lucky. She’s sick, and Elijah sends her jewelry to cheer her up. So romantic.”
“When we’re sick, we only get a bunch of colorful pills. No one’s sending us gems.”
The group laughed, but the envy in their eyes was hard to hide.
Eleanor opened her social media and saw a post from Zoey just a few minutes ago. “The medicine’s bitter, but the candy’s sweet
The picture showed Zoey wearing a multicolored gemstone necklace with snowflake designs, looking like a string of candy.
It was the high–end jewelry line P had just launched not long ago. Eleanor hadn’t expected it to appear around Zoey’s neck so soon.

It looked like what Zoey said was truence Siena’s collaboration was over, Elijah would marry her.
Eleanor’s clarity returned in an instant.
The Elijah who had saved her was a mere illusion. His true goal had always been to protect Zoey.
She clenched her fists, then opened her phone and quickly ordered from the pharmacy.
Everything would fall in
place by noon.
At noon, Eleanor arrived at The Davis Group, carrying her bag.
As soon as she got out of the car, she spotted Logan’s assistant waiting for her.
“Miss Brown, Logan sent me to pick you up.”
“Thank you.”
This wasn’t Eleanor’s first time at The Davis Group. She had come before to deliver food for Logan when Lily was here, so she wasn’t worried about anyone suspecting her.
