Elijah ended the call, and with it, Eleanor felt every shred of hope slip away.

The doctor in front of her slowly began to look like the one from her past life. And standing beside him was the source of her suffering.
“Ah… Don’t come closer. Get away. My hand… my hand is broken!”
Eleanor’s emotions collapsed in an instant, and she couldn’t tell where the past ended and the present began
The pain in her chest was unbearable, a sorrow so deep it consumed every cell in her body.
She gripped the blanket tightly, her body trembling violently.
Elijah called for the attending physician. Nurses tried to hold Eleanor down, but she fought them off repeatedly, her body resisting anyone who came near.
In an attempt to prevent further harm, and with Elijah’s consent, the doctor administered a sedative.
Gradually, Eleanor fell into a peaceful sleep.
Elijah stood by her bedside, his gaze cold as he looked at the pale Eleanor. “What happened?
The attending physician answered, “Miss Brown seems to have been severely agitated and is unable to process the situation right now.”
The room fell silent, the sound of the IV drip the only thing breaking the stillness.
Elijah’s eyes turned as cold as winter, sending a chill through the room. The doctors and nurses dared not even breathe.
Then the phone rang, cutting through the silence.
Elijah glanced at the caller ID, signaling for the staff to leave. They hurriedly complied, and once the room was empty, Elijah answered the call.
Avery’s voice came through, serious and somber “The Jenkins family has spent a fortune. bailing Mateo–out. They’ve already assembled a team of top–tier lawyers. In the end, he might only get probation.”
Probation meant no prison time.
Mateo would face no real consequences.

Elijah silently moved to the window, opened it, and leaned against the sill, lighting at cigarette. He stared at the figure lying in the bed and slowly exhaled a plume of smoke.
“Let him out, understood?”
Elijah flicked the ash from his cigarette, nonchalantly sealing Mateo’s fate.
Avery responded, “Understood.”
After hanging up, Elijah extinguished the cigarette and sat back down by the bed.
Perhaps because of the sedative, Eleanor slept soundly, her face nestled into the pillow, looking serene and beautiful.
It reminded him of that night after their frantic embrace, her head resting on his chest.
Elijah inexplicably raised his hand, wanting to touch her face, but as his fingers reached out, they curled back in hesitation.
He finally lowered his hand, but at that moment, his phone buzzed with a new message.
Elijah frowned, stood up, and walked out of the room.
Eleanor was exhausted.
Since her rebirth, her nerves had been on edge, and the mental strain made her sleep. restless. Especially since she felt like someone was watching her.
Half–conscious, she thought she saw a figure standing by the window, holding a lit cigarette. The light flickered, obscuring the person’s face.
But when she fully opened her eyes, it wasn’t the figure she expected. Instead, it was the comforting face of Aleigha.
Seeing Eleanor awake, Aleigha quickly spoke, explaining her purpose. “Hello, I’m the officer handling your case. I’m here to clarify a few things with you.”
Eleanor struggled to sit up. “What’s going on?”
Aleigha hesitated before speaking. “Eleanor, I’m sorry to inform you, but the man who hurt. Zoey has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, so his confession is now deemed invalid. He’s been sent to a psychiatric facility since Miss Taylor doesn’t plan to pursue charges against him.”
“How can someone just suddenly be declared mentally ill?” Eleanor’s face went pale,

struggling to accept such an outcome.
If they kept investigating, there was no doubt Zoey was involved in this.

Aleigha sighed. “The paperwork is all in order, and it’s been officially certified. It’ll be hard to
reverse.”
Her words were loaded with meaning.
To get such authoritative documents, it had to be someone powerful. And that person had to be connected to Zoey.
It could only be Elijah.
Eleanor stared out the window at the overcast sky, the weight of reality pressing down on her chest, suffocating her.
If she wanted to defeat Zoey, she had to get past Elijah. But how could she, when she was no
match for him?
“Rest well,” Aleigha said with a sigh, and left.
Eleanor sat motionless, as though the next moment, the entire world might swallow her in darkness.
She didn’t know how much time passed before she remembered to check in with Lily.
Eleanor: [Mom, I’m fine.]
Lily: [That’s good. Jayden wants you to come to the Davis family for dinner this weekend. Don’t refuse. It’s his way of giving us a way out.]
Eleanor: [I understand.]
After the conversation, Eleanor lay back in bed, absently scrolling through her phone.
Suddenly, a photo from Zoey caught her eye.
In the picture, Zoey was lying in a hospital bed, with Elijah sitting attentively by her side.
