Zoey, noticing Elijah’s gaze, deliberately spoke up. “Eleanor and Jaxen seem to get along so.
well.”
Elijah shot her a cold glance, and Zoey immediately fell silent, her lips pressed together.
They walked into the dining room.
Lily greeted them with a few pleasantries before pulling Eleanor aside.
“Did you hear? Mateo got his comeuppance.
“What happened?” Eleanor asked, intrigued.
“After he was bailed out, he spent the night with woman. They were caught on camera, and now, it turns out that woman has HIV. Mateo missed the window to take the preventative medication, Lily explained, shaking her head.
Eleanor blinked, momentarily stunned. It’s karma.
He’d sought pleasure with a woman and now found himself trapped in her consequences. It was worse than prison or death.
But was it really such a coincidence? Eleanor thought.
Before Eleanor could think more on it, Jayden entered.
This time, he didn’t make things difficult for her and everything felt remarkably peaceful.
Out of nowhere, a relative of the Davis family turned to Zoey and asked, “Zoey, I hear you’re representing the school in the competition. How’s everything going?”
“My project is almost finished,” Zoey answered confidently.
“Of course, a woman talented enough to catch Elijah’s eye is no ordinary person. Not everyone could compare,” another person added, giving Zoey a pointed glance before subtly eyeing Eleanor.
They had looked down on Eleanor for a long time, but she didn’t care.
Unexpectedly, Jaxen spoke up, wiping his mouth with a napkin. “Anyone who’s competing must be capable. Take Eleanor, for example. Shes always had an incredible talent for design since she was young. I remember in college, her work was so impressive that people wanted to buy the copyright. The future is bright for her

Zoey’s face faltered, and the others who had been sucking up to her looked uncomfortable, but they didn’t dare say anything.
Eleanor shot Jaxen a grateful look, and their eyes met with a shared understanding.
As she turned her gaze away, a cold, heavy stare fell on her from behind, sending a shiver down her spine. She knew exactly who it was but chose to ignore it.
After dinner, Eleanor quickly stood up, pretending to go get some coffee to escape.
However, as she made her way to the coffee room and reached for the coffee beans, the door behind her clicked shut.
She knew immediately who it was. Before she could react, the jar of beans fell from her hands and rolled across the floor, stopping in front of a pair of polished shoes.
She scrambled to pick it up, but two hands slid around her waist, cold and tight like a constricting snake, pulling her back against the coffee table.
The heat from the person behind her radiated, his breath, warm and unsettling, brushing against her ear.
“Do you enjoy being controlled?” Elijah’s voice was low and teasing.
but any The heat from his breath on her ear made her skin crawl. She wanted to escape, movement only made the pressure behind her increase, making her feel as though she couldn’t breathe.
She could feel his chest searing against her back, the heat so intense that even through the fabric of her shirt, it felt suffocating.
Despite herself, a flush crept up her neck. His eyes seemed to take in her every reaction, watching as her body tensed and her breath quickened. His eyes gleamed, and his hand. lightly traced the curve of her waist.
Eleanor’s body trembled, and she struggled, trying to speak, her voice breaking. “Elijah, this is the Davis family.”
“So?” he murmured, his tone dismissive.
“Let go of me. What if someone sees?” She grabbed his hand, trying to pry it off, but it didn’t budge.
He didn’t move. Just when Eleanor thought he might release her, he suddenly lifted her effortlessly and placed her on the coffee table.
She bit her lip hard, stifling a scream.

Now, they were face–to–face, and Eleanor couldn’t look away from his dangerously handsome face. His icy eyes bore into hers with cold indifference, his expression unreadable.
Elijah’s voice was low and menacing, and his gaze held á mix of challenge and possession. “Are you already shifting your focus to Jaxen?”
Eleanor snapped, her voice tight with defiance,Elijah, who I focus on is none of your
business.
He paused, his dark gaze sharpening, before he grabbed her chin and forced her to look up.
“None of my business?” he asked, his tone a low growl.
“Don’t…” Eleanor managed to reply, but before she could say more, his lips crushed against hers in a brutal kiss. He kissed her as if punishing her, forcing her to submit, his lips moving. aggressively over hers. 1
The world seemed to fade away as the room filled with the rich aroma of coffee and the sound of their breathless gasps.
Eleanor struggled, her hands pressed against the coffee table, coffee spilling onto their intertwined hands, turning the surface sticky and slick.
