It was rare for so many people to be gathered together in a pleasant atmosphere, and even J’s usually serious face held a few more smiles than usual.
After distributing the coffee, Eleanor stood behind Lily and Logan, continuing to be an almost invisible presence in the conversation.
Just then, Elijah walked in, still with a faint water stain on his collar.
Monica raised an eyebrow. “Elijah, you’re usually so neat. How did
your clothes get dirty?”
Elijah sat down, took a sip of his coffee, and casually glanced at Eleanor. “A cat brushed against me.”
Monica took a sip of her coffee and chuckled. “That cat must be something. Did it bump into. your mouth?”
Elijah blew on his coffee and replied quietly, “Yes. It’s surprisingly strong.”
Eleanor quickly lowered her head, feeling the heat of embarrassment creeping up her face.
After a brief exchange, Jayden announced that he was heading for a nap, and people began to rise, signaling the end of the gathering.
“Elijah, come with me to the garden,” Jayden said.
“Alright, Elijah replied, standing and walking beside Jayden.
Eleanor kept her head down but felt a faint, lingering gaze on her. She didn’t look up, pretending to remain unaffected, but those two seconds of attention didn’t go unnoticed by Zoey.
Zoey, gripping her fruit fork tightly, resisted the urge to react. She maintained her warm smile and said, “Shall we sit and chat for a while?
In the past, as Elijah’s fiancée, Zoey would have expected everyone to stay her.

But after the press conference, with her true nature becoming more apparent, most people were now avoiding her, unsure of her intentions.
As Zoey stood up, several guests excused themselves under various pretenses and left, clearly uncomfortable.
Zoey’s face reddened, and she stood up to walk out to the garden. As she passed Eleanor, she

Lily took a sip of her coffee, laughing. “You’re not even married yet, but you already know how to give orders. Looks like you’ve run into a dead end now.”
Eleanor placed her coffee cup near Lily’s lips and said quietly, “Mom, less talking. Someone might overhear.”
Lily took a sip, then turned to stare directly at Eleanor, raising her chin and asking, “Why is your face so red?”
Eleanor shrugged her hand away. “It’s hot with so many people around.”
If Lily found out what Elijah had done to her, she’d probably be trying to marry her off to
him.
Lily clicked her tongue and, looking at Eleanor’s disheveled clothes, commented, “You’re a woman, you know. Could you at least dress yourself up a little? Your face doesn’t need to look like this. How are you going to get married?”
“I’m not getting married. I’ll just stay with you,” Eleanor replied with a teasing tone.
“You… you’re really going to drive me crazy, Lily muttered, but her eyes twinkled with. affection.
The two of them continued their conversation as they made their way to the garden.

On the other side, Elijah followed Jayden in silence down the corridor.
Jayden, hands clasped behind his back, glanced at Elijah’s profile and asked, “When did we get a cat?”
Elijah answered calmly, “There are plenty of stray cats in the nearby park. It’s not hard for them to wander in.”
Jayden nodded, then shifted the topic. “How are things with the Jenkins family?”
Elijah, twirling his signet ring, replied coolly, “The acquisition plan is in motion. The Jenkins. family has no other options now.”
At this, Jayden stopped, placed a hand on Elijah’s shoulder, and said, “I knew you wouldn’t disappoint me. I didn’t expect that Eleanor might actually be useful.”

Jayden’s gaze lingered on Elijah as he mentione Eleanor.
“Yeah, Elijah responded coldly, his expression unchanged.
Jayden was pleased with his response. He didn’t want Elijah to be sentimental about Eleanor, especially given their history.
Jayden continued walking and then said, “You’re usually cautious, so I don’t care who you choose to be with. But with Zoey’s current situation, marrying her into the family is out of the question. She’ll have to win this competition to restore her reputation. Understand?”
Jayden had never been fond of Zoey’s background, although her image had previously been flawless. But after the press conference, she had fallen short of expectations.
Elijah remained unaffected, his response as indifferent as ever. “Mm.”
The
conversation ended, and the two men continued walking.
Shortly after, Zoey appeared from behind a garden rockery.
