“Oh.” Eleanor nodded, her voice laced with resistance.

For a moment, there was nothing but silence. Then, unable to bear it anymore, Eleanor glanced out the window at the relentless wind and rain.
She knew she wasn’t going anywhere tonight. Even if she left now, she’d miss the curfew at
school.
With a sigh, she stood up. “Elijah, I’m a little tired. I’m going to sleep.”
Without waiting for a response, she turned and walked toward the guest room.
Elijah, lost in thought, continued to sip his coffee, his brow furrowing slightly as he took another sip.
He picked up a jar of coffee beans from the table, his mind elsewhere, as though considering something deeply.
Late at night, Eleanor was jolted awake by a violent cough, her throat dry and scratchy. When she tried to sit up, the room spun around her.
She had to grip the wall just to steady herself, then stumbled her way to find some water.
After what felt like an eternity, she finally drank some water, but it only made her head feel heavier and more dizzy.
She tried to take a few steps, but her legs buckled, and she was about to collapse when a pair of strong arms scooped her up.
“Your health is so poor,” a familiar voice murmured, and at the sound of it, Eleanor’s whole body went rigid with fear.
“No–don’t touch me!” she gasped, clutching Elijah’s shirt with trembling hands. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, just don’t touch me…”
Her voice was barely audible, a desperate, broken whisper. Her fingers were locked tightly on his collar.
Elijah’s brow furrowed as he held her close. She trembled, like she was fighting something inside, her body shaking in his arms. Her lips trembled, a slight hiss escaping between them, as though she were reliving some kind of nightmare.

Once he laid her down, she resisted harder, scratching three angry marks across his chest in her panic.
“Eleanor…” Elijah called out to her.
“Stop… please, stop!” She cried out, her breath coming in ragged gasps.
Eleanor’s eyes snapped open in a panic, her teeth sinking into his neck. Blood filled her mouth, but it did nothing to stop her shaking. Her body was still fighting–still resisting.
Elijah just frowned, letting her bite him, as though he had no care in the world. His pulse remained calm, even as she bit down harder.
Eventually, exhaustion overcame her, and with a fever raging through her body, she passed out, blood still staining the corner of her lips.
Elijah wiped the blood from her mouth with his thumb, his expression cold and unreadable.
Once she settled down, he got up, wiping the blood from his neck with a towel before dialing Avery.
“Elijah, what’s going on?” Avery’s voice crackled through the phone.
“Keep an eye on Mateo,” Elijah said, his tone as cold as ever.
“Elijah, we’re already in the process of acquiring the Jenkins Group, this-”
“The price isn’t right, Elijah interrupted, emotionless, his gaze hard as he rubbed his thumb over the blood on his skin.
“Understood,” Avery replied quickly, sensing the shift in Elijah’s mood.
The call ended, and Elijah returned to the bedroom. He cleaned up his neck wound, grabbed some fever medicine, and returned to Eleanor, who was still unconscious on the bed.
He sat beside her, gently lifting her head. “Open your mouth. Take the medicine.”
Eleanor’s lips were tightly pressed together, her defiance evident in her posture. She refused to comply.
Elijah wasn’t interested in her bloodied mouth–though, when he gently brushed his thumb adross her lips, it felt strangely intimate, like he was smoothing lipstick onto her skin.
A dark glimmer crossed his face.

His breath caught in his throat as he turned her bead, pressing the medicine between his lips and kissing her deeply.
His taste of blood and something else–linger, and strangely, he didn’t mind it.
After the kiss, he pulled away, feeling a rush of heat in his body, though Eleanor was still disoriented and too weak to react. In fact, she instinctively reached up and pushed at his chest, like a frightened kitten.
Her voice was soft and plaintive, a tiny whimper escaping her. It was enough to make Elijah’s restraint snap.
He grabbed her wrist, holding her hand firmly, feeling a rush of desire that he couldn’t. control.
With a sudden shift, he pushed her back on the bed, his lips crashing into hers with more force. Eleanor felt the weight of his body above hers, crushing her in a way that stole her
breath.
She gritted her teeth, trying to resist–trying to stop him–but her body betrayed her. Elijah‘ touch was steady and unyielding. Slowly, his hand slid to her jaw, gently coaxing her mouth. open with the tip of his finger, taking full advantage of the opportunity.
“Mmm…” Eleanor moaned into the kiss, trying to push him away, but her voice was
swallowed, lost in the heat of the moment.
The kiss deepened, slow and persistent, until she could hardly breathe.
Finally, Elijah pulled back, breathless, his chest rising and falling as he steadied himself. His gaze was intense, eyes darker than before.
Eleanor’s hand trembled at her side, but she wasn’t strong enough to push him off. She curled into herself, wrapping the blanket tightly around her body, turning away from him.
Elijah paused, sensing the shift in her. He wasn’t angry. Instead, he slid in beside her, pulling her close, blanket and all, holding her firmly against his chest.
His voice was low and rough as he whispered into her ear, “How many times do you think you can hide from me?”
Eleanor longed to retort, to snap back, but her body refused to cooperate. The last few moments had drained all her energy, and now, her eyelids grew heavy.
Elijah’s voice continued to buzz in her ears, though it felt more distant with each passing second. Finally, darkness claimed her.
