Chapter 11

Violence might not be the answer, but it did solve problems fast.
With my solid background, he couldn’t touch me. All he could do was fuck off and lick his wounds.
After the wedding, Alaric was like an overgrown kid, rolling around with me on the bed, grinning like an idiot.
“Eileen, Eileen…” He kept saying my name like he couldn’t believe it. “You’re finally my wife.”
“Dumbass.” I smacked his back. “You’re drunk. Go shower.”
He stumbled to the bathroom, still wearing that goofy smile.
I slipped into the lingerie I’d picked for tonight, positioned myself on the bed, and waited.
Gotta say, between us, I’m definitely the experienced one.
The second he saw me, his eyes went wild. Came bounding over like an eager puppy.
I was beat, but he was wired. Kept planting soft kisses. everywhere, grinning and calling me “baby.”
I passed out somewhere between kisses.
Chapter 11
That night, the nightmare came.

I saw Alaric’s past life. After I’d ditched the wedding, his father taunted him with that smug smile.
“Just wait. Soon you’ll drag her back and cage her up, just like I did to your mother.
“Stop pretending. You’re a sick, greedy bastard at heart. Whatever happened to your mother? That’s her future too.
“You’ll drive her insane.”
I watched Alaric clutching his head, writhing in agony in that room plastered with my photos. His face contorted as he kept growling “No, no, no.”
He couldn’t bear the thought of hurting me.
So he chose death instead.
I jerked awake, soaked in cold sweat.
Alaric lay next to me, sleeping peacefully. I traced his perfect features with trembling fingers, then slipped out of bed.
Standing in front of that locked room, I swiped his keyring and tried every key until one clicked.
The door swung open.
I stepped into my worst nightmare.

Alaric’s suicide was probably his escape hatch – crushed under pressure, hating the DNA running through his veins.
He stared at my photos on the wall while his life leaked out his wrists, eyes drinking in every shot of my smile.
Even dying, all he saw was me.
That viral headline from my past life got it right. “World’s Biggest Simp.”
I still couldn’t figure out where his obsession with me started.
He never said a word about it. I’ve asked a million times, but he kept that shit locked down tight.
Maybe couples needed their secrets.
He wouldn’t talk, so I stopped asking.
“Eileen.”
–
I turned to find Alaric who I thought was passed out – standing. there in the shadows.
He looked down, nervous. “Am I weird?”
I grabbed his cold hand and asked, “Why are you up?”
“You weren’t here.” His voice went small. “The bed got cold.”
Chapter 11
I had to laugh.

When we met, he was this ice king who couldn’t even look at me.
Now? Total drama queen.
Funny how being loved brings out everyone’s inner child.
He tugged my sleeve. “Seriously. Am I weird?”
“Not weird. Just… surprising.”
“Never thought you’d like me that early.”
“You’re not mad?”
“You did it because you loved me. Why would I be mad?”
His cheeks went pink as he hugged my waist.
“You’re so good to me… does that mean I can get away with anything?”
“I trust you won’t hurt me.”
I wrapped my arms around his neck.
“I trust who you are.”
A guy who’d rather hurt himself than touch me? Yeah, he was
amazing.
Real love’s rare enough. That’s gold.
I treasured his love. He treasured mine.
Simple as that.
A golden child, once they felt that spot’s threatened, their possessiveness came out real quick.
Just like Alaric with Marvin right now.
I had to fight like hell to stop him destroying Marvin’s gift.
Just some handmade PJs.
A sweet little heart was stitched on the chest, all lovey–dovey.
Alaric nearly lost it when he saw them, but my death glare sent him sulking in the corner.
Even his fingers looked pathetic.
I checked out the PJs quietly.
“Worth staring at that hard?”
He mumbled, wrapping around me like a clingy octopus.
His tall frame blocked the light, breathing on my neck.
Pissed but playing nice, he went soft. “Babe.”
PJs.
“Do what you want. Just don’t throw it. That will embarrass me when he finds out.”
Then he took scissors to it, shredding it like a bratty kid getting
revenge.
Watching the scraps on the floor, I finally asked, “Got beef with Marvin?”
He stopped, then choked out, “I hate him. He acts all close to you while messing around with other women. Disloyal piece of shit.”
When he’s hooking up with some girls, I’m busy handling my exes as well…
Trying not to piss him, I kept it to myself.
“Take it easy,” I patted his head with a sweet smile. “Everything’s settled now, no one in our way, right?”
His neck went red, face turning away, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he breathed out a tiny “Yeah.”
