My son changed from boarding to day school. Now he needed to be picked up every day. Although we had a driver, I still wanted to experience picking up my son myself.
At breakfast, I promised to pick up my son after school. My son was so excited he was waving both his little hands.
But the man next to me suddenly put away his smile.
“That’s nice. How come no one picks me up?”
I got the hint and immediately agreed to pick him up in the evening too.
“Just by the way?” Adrian gave me a meaningful look.
“Not by ‘the way. I’ll come specially to pick you up!”
Hearing this, Adrian finally nodded in satisfaction.
Indeed, men can be as childish as kids when they want to be.
In the afternoon, I arrived at the kindergarten on time to pick up my son. As soon as I walked into the classroom, I heard children’s voices inside.
“Lucas, how come we’ve never seen your mom? Did she abandon you?”
“That’s not true! Don’t say that!”

“That’s not true! Don’t say that!”
My son threw down the Rubik’s Cube in his hand and stood up angrily. The two kids opposite him kept shouting.
“It’s true. Your parents must not get along, so your mom abandoned you.”
“That’s not true. My dad loves my mom very much. Dad said my name Lucas means my mom. My mom didn’t abandon me.”
The kids snorted and made faces at my son.
“Baby, mommy’s here to pick you up.”
My son wiped his tears and looked in my direction. His eyes immediately lit up and he ran over to me.
“Mommy, I missed you so much!”‘
My son held my hand, looking smugly at the other kids.
Seeing an adult had arrived, the two kids didn’t dare say anything. As we were leaving, I noticed a small ball on the ground and casually kicked
it aside.
The ball rolled away, directly knocking over the two kids‘ block towers.
Loud crying immediately filled the classroom.
Hmph, little brats. Don’t mess with me!
I held my son’s hand as we left the kindergarten. We had barely gotten to the car when someone suddenly blocked our path.
“Hazel, long time no see.”
Seeing Jack again, I felt no flutter in my heart whatsoever.
In the past, I had thought about him day and night, hoping Jack could rescue me from my misery.
But now seeing this person, I only felt deep disgust.
“Hazel, you look much thinner.”
“Of course. Seeing your face makes me want to throw up everything I’ve eaten this month.”
Jack’s face stiffened. His gaze fell on my son.
“I see. It must be because your son is here that you can’t speak freely. I understand, Hazel.”
Jack sighed deeply.
“I know how difficult things are for you now. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely save you.”
Forget it. Arguing with an idiot will only turn you into an idiot too.
I rolled my eyes and left directly. After getting in the car, my son looked at Jack’s face thoughtfully.
“Mommy, do you like that uncle? Are you going to leave daddy?”
My heart skipped a beat. I looked at my son. He was staring at me with big eyes, seemingly waiting for an answer.
“Who told you that?”
Given Adrian’s personality, he probably wouldn’t even want to mention them, let alone tell our son these things.
“It was an auntie. Isn’t she your good friend? She also said you would definitely leave me and daddy to go with that uncle.”
As he spoke, my son carefully came forward and held my hand.
“Mommy, I’ll be very good and obedient. Please don’t leave, okay?”
“How could I possibly leave you? Mommy will never leave you.”
I hugged my son, quietly comforting him. But in my mind, a face flashed by.
Rachel…
It must be her.
She even approached my son.
This woman cannot be let off!
I was so preoccupied thinking about Rachel that I didn’t realize we had arrived at the estate until the car stopped.
Oh no, I forgot to tell the driver we were supposed to go to Adrian’s office today.
I had to let my son go home first while I went to the company myself.
On the way back, I hit the peak rush hour traffic. By the time I reached the company, I was a full hour late than the agreed time.
I had just gotten into the elevator when I heard two men in suits complaining.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with Mr. Gu today. He seemed to be in a good mood this morning. The finance department even came out smiling after submitting reports for the first time.”
“I know, right? I thought Mr. Gu had finally changed. The meeting that was scheduled got cancelled too. I thought we could leave work early today.”
“Exactly. I went to submit a proposal just on time, but ended up getting scolded.”
Hearing their words, I unconsciously rubbed
my nose.
It seems it was all my fault.
