Chapter 19
Hailey only realized that she’d been taken to the hospital when she opened her eyes. “Terence…”
However, Nora’s snort was all that answered her. “He’s not here. I’m all you have.”
“Where is he? How is he? Is he okay?” Hailey struggled to sit up, but Nora hurriedly pressed her back down.
“Stop moving! You have a head injury! Don’t worry about Terence–he’s resting at home after the shock he’s had,” Nora said.
Hailey settled down, tugging her wound in the process. She winced. Nora rearranged her pillows and mocked, “Hurts, doesn’t it? Terence felt much worse than you did when he fell into the water the last time!
Nora’s heart ached when she remembered how white Terence’s face had been after being saved from the water. She smacked Hailey a few times to vent her frustration. “It’s all your fault for saving Matthew instead of Terence when you knew he couldn’t swim! Are you happy now that you’ve lost Terence?”
Hailey felt horrible when she heard Nora’s words. Now, she finally knew how much pain Terence had been in. She couldn’t imagine how much despair he would’ve been in in that situation; she clenched her fists underneath the sheets.
Over the next few days, Nora was the only one who visited Hailey at the hospital and cared for her. Hailey wanted to see Terence but couldn’t bring herself to ask
Finally, on the day before she was discharged, she opened her mouth to ask Nora. However, Nora rolled her eyes
“re she could say anything.““I know what you’re going to say, but don’t even think about it. “Terence nad a high fever from the shock, so we’re making sure he stays home and gets all the rest he needs. Besides, he has nothing to do with you now. Why do you want him to visit you?”
“He’s my husband…” Hailey started.
Nora flicked her on the forehead before she could get any further. “Who are you calling your husband? You two are already divorced! He’s your ex–husband now!”
“But I didn’t agree to it!”
Nora rolled her eyes again. She’d investigated the matter and discovered that Matthew had tricked Hailey into signing the divorce agreement when drunk. “It’s your fault for having so much to drink. You deserve
this!
On the day Halley was discharged, she finally saw Terence again in the living room at Rainer Manor. They had nothing to say to each other, but Terence felt it was a little rude–she’d saved him, after all.
So, he asked, “Are you feeling better?”
She nodded and was about to say something when her aunt, Kelly Rainer, dragged her to Richard. He looked at her. “How are you now?”
She sat beside him. “I’m fine.”
Kelly smiled. “That’s good to know. I won’t have to worry about you when I bring Terence with me for some fun, then.”
Hailey turned to look at her. “What are you up to, Aunt Kelly?”
Kelly approached Terence and linked arms with him. “promised Terence I would bring him to Frost
Chepperto
Mountain for a hot spring getaway once you were discharged. We’re spending a few days there.”
Nora sat beside Halley and poured her a glass of water. She chimed in. “It’s boring to be cooped up in here all day, anyway. You youngsters should get out more.”
Hailey was disappointed by this. She was finally back from the hospital and eager to spend time with Terence, yet he was leaving.
Perhaps sensing her disappointment, Kelly asked, “Do you want to come with us?”
Richard disagreed. “It’s bad for her health to wander around when she’s just been discharged.”
Hailey looked at Terence, but he looked indifferent. She turned to Richard. “I’ll be fine, Grandpa. I’m bored from being stuck in the hospital for two weeks–this’ll be a chance for me to let loose.”
After a brief discussion, Kelly said, “That’s settled, then, You’re coming with us.”
The trio soon left on the trip. On the way there, Kelly chattered on about their plans while Terence and Hailey occasionally chimed in.
Kelly still noticed something was wrong, though. She stuck her head between them, looking curious. “Why do you two seem to be acting so weirdly? You’re a married couple, yet you’re not speaking to each other. You’re only responding to me.”
Nora and Harold were the only ones who knew Terence and Hailey were already divorced. They stiffened, unsure how to explain the situation when Kelly clapped her hands, looking like the realization had dawned on her.
“I’ve got it! Are you still mad at Hailey for the groom switch, Terence? How about this–let’s punish her by making her carry our bags!”

tinued chattering, making the atmosphere lively for the rest of the journey. Soon, they arrived at the resort she’d reserved.
After collecting their keys at the reception, they went to their rooms. Kelly smiled and waved at Terence and Hailey. “I’ll see you guys later.”
Then, she shut the door to her room. Terence and Hailey entered their room, surprised when they saw what was inside.
