Chapter 21
“We’re divorced now, Hailey. You have no right to boss me around.” Terence tried to break free of Hailey’s
grip
However, she held him so tightly he couldn’t get away. She snarled, “How dare you dress like this!”
As far as she remembered, Terence had always been dressed properly and demurely. His shirts would always be buttoned to the top. Still, it seemed she’d forgotten that he’d been independent of her before their marriage. He had the right to wear whatever he wanted
Now that they were divorced, she had no right to tell him what to do.
He looked at her coldly, a trace of displeasure in his eyes. “Let me go. You have no right to order me around. Hailey.”
Her eyes became red as she turned around to drag him out of the bar, making him lose control of himself
and slap her.
She touched her cheek, her gaze becoming pained. “What if someone were to take a photo of you dressed like this? Think about the rumors that would fly about the Rainer family! And if Grandpa were see this-
“That’s enough!” Terence broke free of her grip and sneered at her. “Just be honest and say that you’re pissed about instead of using the Rainer family’s reputation and Grandpa to force me into something You’re a joke, Hailey. Do you think I care about those things? We can just announce our divorce if it comes down to it.”
Indifference and mockery in his eyes stabbed her, Wave after wave of regret and heartache washed
her.
Yes, they were divorced. If Terence cared about any of the things she’d mentioned, he wouldn’t have gone through with the divorce in the first place.
He continued, “As for those rumors you mentioned, your family and grandfather couldn’t care less about them. I suppose you were too busy to care, but the moment I married you, they told me I could wear and do whatever I wanted. They didn’t care about those things
“Ive only been holding myself back for the past five years for your sake. Now that I’m free, what makes you think I’ll stii–do as you say and wear those conservative clothes like I did in the past?”
He turned and headed to the dance floor without another look at her.
Hailey watched as he swayed to the music, her bitterness welling in her. She knew all too well that she had no right to order him around anymore.
She and Terence didn’t speak again until dinner. Kelly took a bite of her fish, her gaze traveling between the two. “Did you two get into another fight while I was gone? Did you do something to upset Terence again, Hailey?
They still didn’t say anything. Kelly sighed in resignation. She was about to press Terence for answers when he poured her a glass of juice. “It’s nothing, Aunt Kelly. Let’s not talk about it anymore.”
Kelly had no choice but to suppress her curiosity. When they returned to their rooms and Terence had shut the door, Kelly slapped Hailey upside her head. “What did you do while I was gone? I havent seen a genuine smile on Terence’s face since we arrived. I wouldn’t have brought you if I’d known about this!*
She dragged Hailey into her room and shoved her onto the couch. Then, she pulled a chair over and plopped onto it so she and Hailey were face–to–face. Now, tell me what happened between you two?
And what happened in the past?”
She had the feeling there was more to the story. Halloy and Terence wouldn’t have arrived at this point if
their only problems were the groom switch and abortion
Hailey knew she couldn’t hide the truth for much longer when she saw the stubborn glint in Kelly’s eyes. So, she told her about the past five years.
Kelly still looked doubtful. “Have you guys divorced because of this?”
Terence and Hailey still would’ve chosen to share a room if this was just about Matthew. There was a couch in there, after all. The fact that Terence had chosen to get another room made her feel that divorce was the only explanation for this.
Hailey fell silent.
Kelly snapped, “How could you have done these things, Halley?”
