Terence smiled wanly but didn’t say anything. When he got up, Richard gave him a gift and said, “Be safe, Terry.”

It was the same thing Richard had said when Terence had first come from the countryside all those
ago.
Terence’s eyes turned red again. He opened the door to see Halley sitting outside. She shot to her feet, looking concerned when she saw his red eyes. Before she could say anything. Richard said sternly. “Come in, Hailey!”
The door swung shut again. Hailey greeted Richard and was about to sit beside him when he said grimly, Who told you to sit? Get on your knees!”
She didn’t dare retaliate and kneeled before him. He straightened up and looked at her, saying. “I’ve known about your and Terry’s divorce for some time now.”
“What?” She looked up at him in surprise. “You knew about that?”
“Hmph. You’re just like your father was when he was trying to win your mother back.” The difference was that Nora and Harold only had a slight misunderstanding, and Harold knew what to say to appease Nora. They’d made up after he’d explained the situation.
Hailey, on the other hand, had tormented Terence for five years
Richard continued, “Why didn’t you make it clear from the start that you didn’t like Terry? What’s the point of regretting everything now that he’s already gone? And you think you can still win him back. Dream on!”
Hailey had a bad feeling about where this was going. Her heart raced, and she felt like something was
ving her.
“You’ve disappointed him and left him alone for five years. What makes you think a small injury and some grievances are enough for you to win him back? Terry is a great guy–he shouldn’t be with someone like you,” Richard said.
“It’s not like that, Grandpa, Hailey hurriedly said. “I know where I went wrong; I can see all the mistakes. I’ve made. I genuinely love him and want to get him back.
“Hailey.” This was Richard’s first time speaking to her so sternly. “Your realization has come too late. I’ve already discussed this with your parents, and I’ve decided to take Terence as my god–grandson. He’ll be your parents‘ godson.”
Hailey felt like she’d been struck by lightning. Her mind went blank.
“From today onward, Terence will be your brother!”
Richard had always been decisive. The news of Halley and Terence’s divorce soon spread throughout Sphere City. People were gearing up to stomp all over Terence when another piece of news stunned them -the Rainer family was taking him as their godson!
Nora held Terence’s hand, looking agitated. “I wanted to have you as a godson the moment I met you, but Hailey beat me to it. It’s not too late now, though.”
Terence smiled at her. They were on such good terms that people couldn’t help feeling envious.
Meanwhile, Hailey stood in a corner, feeling tortured as she watched them. Why had things turned out like this? She’d been so close to winning Terence back. Now, however, everything was ruined. She buried her face in her hands and cried.
After the banquet, Terence returned to his room, his arms full of the gifts people had brought him. He pushed the door open and entered the room when a pair of arms pulled him into
a drunken embrace, making him drop all his gifts.
He was about to call for help when a hand clamped over his mouth. “Terence, it’s me.”
The lights were flipped on in the room. Terence looked at Hailey and mocked, “Did you need something from me, my dear sister? At this hour?”
Something seemed to snap inside Halley when he called her his sister. She pinned him to the wall, her eyes bloodshot as she begged, “Don’t call me that, Terence… Please… I’m supposed to be your wife, and you’re supposed to be my husband! You’re not my brother!”
Terence slapped her. “You’re drunk and spouting nonsense. I’m your brother and nothing else!”
After that, he shoved her aside, wanting to kick her out of the room. In the next second, she pressed her lips to his.
