Chapter 5
After a while, Hadden seemed to have thought of something.
He kicked the cover and shouted at his assistant, “You! You were the one who put this mannequin in here, weren’t you? You helped Felicia escape!”
His assistant was pretty much vomiting bile at this point, but ignoring Hadden was not an option.
“I didn’t, Mr. Rowse! This has nothing to do with me. I’m pretty sure… that’s Ms. Lowe’s body…” His words came out in fragments as he continued to throw up.
Hadden did not look pleased with his assistant’s response and glared at the pool with contempt. Disbelief laced the words he said next.
“It’s fake! This body has to be fake! I know she put that in there because she doesn’t want to admit that she did something wrong. I knew she wasn’t going to apologize so easily. Just wait! Once I get my hands on her, I’ll make her apologize to Julia!”
It was hilarious how delusional he was being. Laughing, I even did a twirl in front of him.
“I’m right in front of you, Hadden. Can’t you see? You saw my body, didn’t you? Look at how bloated it is! I would think so, considering how long it’s been in the water. You’re delusional if you think you can get a dead body to apologize to Julia.”
Hadden’s assistant gathered his courage and said, “Mr. Rowse, Ms. Lowe… is dead…”
Hadden grabbed the mop and swiped it at his assistant’s leg. Watching the latter yelp in pain, he tossed the mop away and shouted, “There’s no way she’s dead! She must’ve placed that mannequin in there to escape punishment. Hmph! What does she take me for, an idiot?!
“Just you wait, Felicia! Once I find evidence that you’ve run away, I’ll find you and make you kneel in front of Julia to repent.”
Then, Hadden marched out of the residence, locking the main doors behind him as he left. His assistant followed meekly behind him.
He was still furious when he arrived at the office. Julia rushed over to him and grabbed his hand sympathetically.
“Why are you so angry, Hadden? Did you two fight? Calm down, okay? Being angry is bad for your body.”
Hadden pulled her into his arms and rested his forehead against hers. He gave her a soft kiss on her hairline before he explained, his voice shaking from fury, “I can’t believe her, Julia! I can’t believe she put a mannequin in there to escape punishment!”
Then, he stepped backward to face Julia as he promised her, “Don’t worry, I’ll make her pay for what she did. I’ll make her apologize, I swear.”
I laughed from where I floated behind him.
Even after seeing my body, this man still refused to believe that I was dead. I wondered if his avid denial was out of fear for me or out of fear that Julia would not get the apology she ‘deserved‘.
There was almost no space between their faces. On a whim, I decided to get closer and blow a puff of
